CO.RI.PRO. is the Consortium for the selection and control of the olive nursery plants.
The olive nursery has always been of the best agricultural productions of the district of Pescia. Already in the 18th century the Georgofili, when they founded their Academy (1753), showed their appreciation towards the horticulturists of Pescia for their activity in the "industrial" reproduction of olive trees. Today, even preceding flowers, the owners of nurseries in Pescia support the agricultural sector thanks to hundreds of companies that produce olive trees.
The annual production of olive trees is about three million young plants which corresponds to more than 80% of the production in Tuscany and to more than a third of the national production. This is the result of a successful combination of tradition and research, a desire for enterprise and capacity of innovation, attention to the quality of the product and to national and international markets which are in continual evolution.
In this perspective, the CO.RI.PRO was formed to guarantee the identity of the variety and the phytosanitary compliance of the plants produced.
Members of the Consortium develop more than 60% of the local production to respond quickly to the many demands of the market.
The plants are produced by cuttings and grafting.
Propagation by cutting is the most common reproduction method in the sector of professional olive tree nurseries. 50% of the plants produced by Coripro is obtained with this method.
Grafting is a traditional technique for the companies in Pescia where it has been applied since 1875. Grafting, which is done manually, is carried out on chosen plants and tested cultivated varieties . All plants put on the market meet rigorous quality standards.
